The Elahera Gem Field in Central Sri Lanka

The Elahera gem field covers approximately 150,000 m2 in the Matale and IJolonnaruwa dis- tricts of central Sri Lanka. The map of the Elahera region in figure 2 extends from approximately 80°45 to 80°55 east and from 7O35' to 70501north. The principal gem-mining area is centered at 80°50 longitude from north to south.
