Those are mass production cam grinders who can grind a custom cam. If you are some big swinging dick in the business (doubt you are) or are buying 100 plus cams a year ( that's what I averaged from 1999-2007) you most likely will get an off the shelf cam from any of those grinders. It's the salesmans job to sell you a cam off the shelf.

It is not what I would call ideal. Imagine a 6" diameter wheel driven off of the spindle where the normal grinding wheel mounts by a belt. It is a real mother to keep the lobe from having chatter and taper with that little wheel. Anyway, I could replace our 4 crank grinders and one cam grinder with a CNC machine and still have capacity to do more.
